Examination Tips

It is natural to feel a little stress when it comes to examinations, there is nothing wrong with a little adrenaline. Be sure to study well, know your information. Get enough sleep the night before an exam, you will remember better when your brain is well rested. Listen and read instructions keenly, read through the exam paper so you will have an idea of what the paper entails. Address each question individually and relax, if you get tense then that will make it difficult for you to remember what you have studied. Be sure to read over your paper, check for mistakes and make corrections.

TOUGH TIMES

Have you ever felt that you cannot get through the week, like you will never get things done in the best way possible? That was what happened this week for us the BSc year3 students. This week was a very hectic week, we had several course works due and a major presentation.
We can now breathe a sigh of relief now. The Housekeeping presentations we did were all well done and we got great grades. However ours was the "BOMB", we made our own housekeeping uniforms. FI WI SINTING presented on beds, linens and uniforms, other groups presented on managing inventory and guest room cleaning. We had so much fun.
Did you know that many persons think that they can do a perfect job of making a bed but they really can't? I bet you are asking yourself what do i mean? Let me give you a breakdown of the things needed to make a standard hotel bed ; 2-3 flat sheets, a blanket, a duvet, two pillows & pillow cases and cushions. If you think that was all, think again, we had to do an Accounts presentation on Internal Control. At the end of this course we should all be excellent presenters. Can i tell you that for all of the courses we do we have presentations.
Until we speak again this is FI WI SINTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EXAMS ARE UPON US; HOW ABOUT YOU?

Our exams are in 4 weeks and we have only started devising a study schedule now. We are in the 1st year of the BSc program and it's so stressful sometimes we all wish we could erase exam week from the calendar. A good tip to do is what my friend does - fold a paper in 4 parts and read over one section of the note. Then, copy it out word for word on one section. Then, cover it up and what you just copied, and write down everything you know and understand. Do it twice to help you understand. Then, talk about what you know out loud. Go on to the next section do the same. Then, once you are finished, write out what you had studied in the previous section. Now put these tips all together:

  • Give yourself plenty of time
  • Read over your notes every night
  • Paraphrase the text book and the teacher's notes
  • Read something, cover it up, and recite it back until you know it.
  • Don't memorize it. Understand it
  • Be involved in your classes.- Don't simply pretend you are a sponge, ready to soak up whatever the instructor says. You are there to learn, not to be taught.
  • Ask questions- if you are confused. Confusion is definitely your worst enemy.
  • The least efficient approach to studying is to attempt to memorize your notes from beginning to end. It's not the words which are important--it's the ideas.
  • Highlight- major topics and subtopics, with the goal of generating an outline of your notes

OLD SCHOOL UNIFORM DAY

If a excitement yuh want, it deh yah!!!
As we entered the gates of the institution on Tuesday Feb. 24.2009, the air was filled with exuberance. Everyone was clad in their old school uniform as we celebrated our old schools in our own way. Students added their own spice to the way they wore their old High School uniform; some went to the extreme to add hair bubbles & ribbons, custom made lunch kits, and cartoon character knapsacks. Lecturers are not stuck-up, even they added to the days excitement. One particular lecturer was all decked out in a miniature red tie, white blouse, grey A-line skirt and a matching red belt with grey and white bobby socks and to think this was with 3 inch heels.
The campus was 'smoking hot' with scrumptious jerk chicken and tasty june plum juice. The day ended with a concert featuring a breath-taking theatrical rendition of a popular Jamaican play 'Class of 73' and a wibble wabble dance-off which ended just before night fall.
This is just one the many exhilarating proceedings that occurs on our campus recurrently.
